DYE PENETRANT TESTING SERVICES

Dye penetrant testing (PT) is a nondestructive testing method that reveals surface indications like breaks, pits, and cracks. Dye is applied to an area of interest with enough dwell time for the dye to penetrate cracks and imperfections. Excess dye is then cleaned away and a developer is applied. The developer pulls remaining dye from the any surface discontinuities to highlight areas of concern.

For example, this image presents a red, linear indication around a flange weld. This surface method is particularly useful for the detection of hairline fractures that are difficult to witness during a visual or radiographic inspection.
